Refuge Salon has found it’s new home in Silverlake California, becoming the hotspot of the east side. With some of the best “celebrity” stylists in the united states, Refuge mixes events with culture and hair, then blends it all together to create the sweetest creative mix. TASTY!

Refuge Salon will always have a warm spot in my heart, I was lucky enough to be involved with it’s growth and watch it evolve. I have recently found myself across the country in St. Pete, Florida. Let good hair begin!

Good Hair Day, Homemade Recipies

Maintain your hair’s beauty and strength by using natural masks and deep conditioners that you can make from ingredients found in your kitchen. You won’t risk having adverse reactions such as allergies or irritations, since there are no allergens or chemicals present.

Dandruff Remedies – Use a thyme rinse to get rid of fungal irritation on your hair. Boil a handful of fresh thyme leaves in water for about five minutes. Let it sit to cool before straining the leaves out.

While leaning over a bowl, pour this solution onto your hair, catching the liquid so you can use it again. Let it sit for a few minutes before continuing with your normal shampoo and conditioner. The oils in thyme will help stunt the growth of fungi that cause that itching and flaking associated with dandruff!

Dry and damaged hair – A common mask that you can apply on your hair is composed of beaten egg, a few tablespoons of olive oil and a bannana. These fatty foods help retain moisture on the scalp as well as stimulate growth of healthy hair. Take one or two eggs, depending on the length of your hair and mix with about a teaspoon of olive oil for each egg and add one bannana. Apply the mixture on your hair from roots to tips, and also massage your scalp. Cover your head with a shower cap to allow your body heat to let the oils penetrate each strand of hair. Leave on for thirty minutes. Finish with shampoo and conditioner.

Dry Dull Hair – To fight dullness, rinse your hair with a cup of apple cider vinegar after shampooing. Then apply a hot-oil treatment such as coconut oil or olive oil and cover with a a shower cap for 30 minutes. Your hair will look shiny and healthy.

Oily Hair – Mix one cup of apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of mandrin orange oil, a teaspoon of lavendar oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture on your hair from roots to midshaft, and also massage your scalp. Try to keep this mixture away from your ends. Cover your head with a shower cap to allow your body heat to let the oils penetrate each strand of hair. Leave on for thirty minutes. Finish with shampoo and conditioner.

Protein Treatment – Hair masks using dairy products are good sources of protein which also help hair grow strong and healthy. Try combinations like yogurt and milk. Honey may also be added to hair masks to make strands shinier and smoother. Keep the hair mask on for at least half an hour before rinsing, then finish with shampoo and conditioner.

Zerran Reform

Color Correction, Dark and murky to bright and flirty

Color correction can be difficult, especially when the hair has been processed with “box” color. Box color tends to become flat and drab, especially since it is formulated for course or gray hair. In this case, we took a beautiful natural blond who went dark using box color to a beautiful warm light brown with highlights. The process took over 5 hours, but the results were stunning! It is recommended to continually deep condition the hair when your hair has undergone extreme processing. I also highly recommend applying a Brazilian Keratin Treatment to help restore the keratin in the hair shaft, take away frizz and tangles and leave the hair silky and shiny for up to four months.

Balayage to Beachy Hair!

Balayage is a French freestyle technique of creating natural, hand-painted highlights. In French, le balayage means “strands of color. It can also be addressed as baliage.

The technique can be done in a chunky or subtle way, but the effect is generally softer since the highlights are gradiated, rather than separated with a methodical aluminum foil technique. It’s a great way to achieve a natural, beachy, and relaxed bright look with darker colors at the root gradiated to lighter colors towards the ends. It is also easier to maintain, the gradiated roots will blend in with the rest of your hair as they grow. Hot!
